Notes from the production. Y.Cocoon… Embodiment… Part 2

In the previous article of our blog, we have already started to talk about the production aspects of our furniture. In this part, we will continue to introduce you to the production process of BrightYards designer furniture.

As already mentioned, BrightYards garden furniture consists of a metal frame and a fabric shell. We came to this structure of furniture not by chance. The metal frame made of stainless steel makes our furniture stable, durable, and resistant to mechanical and weather effects. But almost everywhere we cover the metal frame with fabric. The fabric is soft and pleasant to the touch, which makes the furniture tactile and comfortable, gives the outdoor furniture a cozy and atmospheric feel.  Аt the same time, these fabrics are intended for outdoor use.

Fabrics for outdoor furniture

Outdoor fabrics are in a different league. It needs to be durable, not fade, strong, repel moisture, not rot, be pleasant to the touch, easy to clean, and behave well on the frame. We spent a lot of time looking at different fabrics and are still studying this issue, but we have settled on no-compromise fabrics – dyed acrylic fabrics. In our opinion, this is the best that is currently available for outdoor furniture. These fabrics are also the most expensive on the market, but their properties and durability make up for it. These materials are practically non-stretchable, so for complex parametric shapes a rather complicated design of textile elements is required. As a matter of fact, these are all rather large sewn products with a complex design.

Y.Cocoon has a complex spatial shape. When it is reproduced in the material, many nuances appear. The fabric behaves differently when stretched at different angles. For more than a year, we have been designing and testing fabric elements for our furniture to look like cast surfaces on a frame without stretching or deforming the shape. We have achieved an excellent result, although at the beginning of the journey we were not sure what this result could look like in reality, as it did in the design visualizations.

Attaching the fabric to the frame

Another challenge we faced at the very beginning of development was how to attach the fabric to the metal frame. The fact is that for a cast look, the fabric must be evenly stretched over the frame. At the same time, the shape of the frame is not linear, it has curves and bends, which immediately ruled out many traditional methods of attachment. After much experimentation, we came up with an optimal system that not only allows for optimal tensioning of the cover, but is also easy and understandable for the consumer.

Continuous growth and learning

In the process of manufacturing, we grow and learn as a team. Designing and manufacturing complex fabric covers is no easy task. Each new product is a new challenge, a new task to achieve the perfect result in the best technological way. It is an interesting journey. At every stage we think about our customers, their needs and comfort. We are sure that BrightYards garden furniture will pleasantly surprise you with its original design, quality, comfort and innovation.
