Let’s take a look behind the scenes of the production process of BrightYard outdoor furniture. It all starts with an idea. Using Y.Cocoon as an example, we want to show you the way from the idea to the finished product.
The idea of Y.Cocoon is a comfortable outdoor bed with a dome of an original shape. It was the shape and idea of the cocoon that inspired our designers to create this product. When we imagine a cocoon, we imagine something isolated, cozy, protected. So Y.Cocoon by BrightYards is a cozy bed – a cocoon for the garden, by the pool, on the terrace… A place where you can be alone, relax, unwind.
From the very beginning, our designers were inspired by the ideas of parametric design. This style is more developed in architecture. But lately we see more and more elements of the parametric trend in the design of small forms, such as furniture. The idea of an outdoor sofa with a dome of the original Y.Cocoon shape was inspired by natural forms. When we imagine a cocoon, we imagine something secluded, protected, cozy, a place of reproduction and tranquility.
The dome shape has four sides. The curves of the edges create a kind of skeleton that is covered with a fabric shell like a skin. With this piece, the embodiment of the main constructive idea of BrightYards furniture began – a metal frame covered with a fabric shell.
The process of developing the prototype design took more than a year. It was difficult to put a point on this process. Even now, at the production stage, we are constantly adjusting the design of the models to make them more functional, ergonomic and technological.
Choosing materials for outdoor furniture is not an easy task. The requirements for this type of furniture are more stringent than for indoor furniture. It must be resistant to weather conditions, ultraviolet radiation, moisture, mold and rust. In the BrightYards version we use two types of materials. For metal crucian carp – stainless steel, for fabric shells – high quality woven acrylic, 100% solution dyed acrylic. We believe this is the best choice to achieve our goals – to create truly durable designer furniture that you will enjoy for years to come.
We are pleased with the models of furniture sets created by our designers. The next step is to transform these models into material. Stainless steel processing is a complex process at all stages: from metal cutting, including turning and milling, to welding and polishing. The metal frame of BrightYards furniture is a collapsible structure, because furniture is a rather fragile thing. It is important to minimize the volume at the stage of storage and transportation of furniture. But it was also important for us to make the process of assembling the furniture easy and intuitive. In order to achieve this, we decided to do without screwing the elements together. Our furniture is easy and quick to assemble without screws. But it took a lot of effort and many iterations to make this idea a reality. We are confident that assembling and disassembling our furniture is now a fascinating process. It’s quick and easy.
In our next blog post we will tell you about our textile production. It will be interesting.
